Westbrook University is a small American private, nonsectarian, nonprofit distance-learning university located in Weirton, West Virginia.
Its areas of academic study include a focus on progressive healthcare science fields, including complementary, holistic and integrative therapies, and its pedagogical approaches differ from those of many mainstream U.S. universities. As such, it is not accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, approved by the U.S. Department of Education as the "nationally recognized" regional accreditor of degree-granting colleges and universities in West Virginia and 18 other South-Central and Midwestern states. Westbrook is accredited instead by Accrediting Commission International, which accredits degree-granting private colleges and universities, along with Bible colleges and seminaries, but is not recognized by the Department of Education. Westbrook is additionally accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and the association's American Alternative Medical Association division, and is listed by the American Naturopathic Certification Board as an approved distance-learning college.
Founded in 1986, Westbrook offers undergraduate and graduate-level professional degrees to non-traditional students internationally.
Westbrook offers eight undergraduate and 18 graduate degree programs in psychology and mental health counseling, addiction counseling, holistic nursing, nutrition, naturopathy and integrative medicine. The program leading to a doctorate in integrative medicine is open only to physicians, chiropractors and other primary, secondary or tertiary care health professionals. Westbrook also offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Doctor of Science, Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Naturopathy degrees.
